Bag Challenge
Your quilt deserves a hand-made bag! Myrna Rosebrook challenged the members to make a fabric bag to transport their quilts (especially those being entered in the Quilt Show)

Create a "Crazy Quilt" Patch
Presenters: Leann Clifford, Corrie Beyer Koopman
Description: Participants randomly cut and placed small pieces of assorted fabric on the sticky surface of a prepared 8" muslin square with "Wonderunder" pressed on one side. When the square was completely covered with fabric pieces, they were pressed in place with a hot iron. Participants were encouraged to save this square for a "nine-patch" sampler quilt comprised of squares using techniques that will be introduced at upcoming the meetings. Alternately the "crazy quilt" patch can be used to decorate a bag (see the September Challenge.

Winter 2011: Beginning Quilting Classes for Members Only

There will be 3 months of introductory quilting classes that will include rotary cutting basics, primarily patchwork (strip quilting), quilt construction, borders, simple quilting, and binding. Participants will have some homework between each month. The project is making a small quilt (44"x44" without borders), using strip piecing to make the irish chain block used in the quilt. Yardage for different sizes of the quilt can be provided.

  • Wed. Jan. 5 or Sat. Jan. 8
  • Wed. Feb. 9 or Sat. Feb. 12
  • Wed. Mar. 9 or Sat. Mar. 12
  • Supplies:
  • Fabric (for 44"x44" quilt)
    1. 1 yard scrap material for rotary cutter lesson
    2. 2 yards dark fabric (1 yard for the quilt, 1 yard for the border and binding)
    3. 3 yards light fabric (1.5 yards for the quilt, 1.5 yards for the border)
  • Sewing Machine with extra bobbins, needles, and manual
  • Rotary Cutter with new blade
  • Scissors, sharp pins, seam ripper
  • 17"x23" Mat (or larger)
  • 6"x24" ruler (8.5"x24" ruler is also acceptable)
  • Thread to match fabric
  • Note book pencil & eraser

May 25-28, 2011 - Quilt Show - CQA / ACC Quilt Ontario, hosted by London Ontario

The quilt show host is asking quilters to sew fabric leaf bowls (with spring coloured fabrics if possible) using a design created by London quilt artist Jill Buckley.
