Judged Categories
Quilts are like flowers -- you'll find them in many colors, textures, shapes and sizes. Prairie Piecemakers invite all quilters to help us showcase the art of quilting in its many forms. (Download a PDF copy of the Judge Categories)
- Small Quilts - Hand or machine quilted: maximum 160 inch perimeter. Choose your favourite technique.
- Medium Quilts - Hand quilted or hand appliquéd: maximum perimeter of 240 inches. Use any technique that shows off your great hand stitching!
- Medium Quilts - Sewing Machine or Mid-Arm Quilted: maximum perimeter of 240 inches. Any technique that shows off your machine quilting skills!
- Medium Quilts – Long-arm Quilted: maximum perimeter of 240 inches. A quilt constructed of any technique that has been long-arm quilted.
- Large Quilts - Hand quilted or hand appliquéd: greater than 240 inch perimeter. We admire anyone with the fortitude to hand quilt or hand applique a large quilt. Kudos and please share your masterpiece with us.
- Large Quilts - Sewing Machine or Mid-Arm Quilted: greater than 240 inch perimeter. Don’t be shy. If you’ve gone to the effort of manipulating a large quilt under the needle of your sewing or mid-arm machine, you need to show it off!
- Large Quilts – Long-arm Quilted: greater than 240 inch perimeter. For the time challenged quilter, long-arm quilting is a godsend, allowing us to enjoy a finished product instead of storing a UFO. Show us your latest creation.
- Innovative Quilts - Mixed Media: maximum perimeter of 240 inches. Enter the brave new world of art quilts. Show us your original creation, not from a pattern or kit, with a variety of materials including but not limited to fabric, paper, foil, paint, stamps, paint sticks, lutradur, tyvek, yarn, roving, silk by-products, etc. Be sure to list all of the interesting materials you’ve incorporated.
- Innovative Quilts - Fabric based: maximum perimeter of 240 inches. This category is designed for quilters who want to experiment with their own design on an innovative quilt but prefer to use fabrics rather than the items listed in Category 8.
- Innovative Quilts – An originally designed quilt that has 3-dimensional elements such as fabric folding or embellishments.
- Innovative Object – An originally designed 3-dimensional object that has a quilted element. Be creative. Please note on your entry form if a special display area will be required.
- Group Quilts - Completed by 2 or more people: any size. What have you and your quilting friends stitched up lately?
- Recycled - Made from recycled fabrics or materials: any size. Old jeans, interesting tablecloth, silk blouse, something unusual from Value Village - give something a second life and be sure to tell us what you started with.
- Traditional Meets Innovative - A quilt that incorporates both traditional quilting techniques and innovative fabrics, designs or embellishments: any size. Intrigued by innovative techniques but still interested in traditional quilt blocks? Combine the two and send us your creation.
- Assorted quilted items: table cloths, place mats and runners; fabric bowls and boxes, bags, dolls, cushions, etc.
Framed pieces will not be accepted in this show. Please be advised that cameras are allowed in the show venue and the organizing committee cannot guarantee that any particular entry will not be photographed.
